Lord, You Are Still Good

Lord, you are still good. You are still a gracious, merciful, and loving Father. Nothing that happens on this earth can change who You are. Thank you that You are steadfast and sure. When our emotions are reeling, when we are angry and sad and full of doubt, You are still there and You are still God. Your timing and your plan is perfect and sovereign. You are in control.

We don’t know what You are doing or why You chose now to do it. It’s so hard to trust You when things are so far from what we expect and hope for in life, but that’s where faith comes in. Strengthen our faith, that we can trust You, even when we don’t understand.

We don’t know why You chose for Hunter’s last day to be now, rather than 60 years from now, but we know You had a reason. Maybe it was to reach someone who is still lost and far from You. Maybe it was to protect him from his own future choices or from someone else’s. Maybe it was to act as a reminder to us to be making the most of the time you’ve given us. Or maybe it was something else entirely, but whatever the reason, it was Your reason and that should be good enough for us.

We will never know why You do all that You do, if we did, we would be You. But those things are not for us to know in full. Please open our eyes to see a glimpse of what You are up to here, though. Show us a bit of how You are working.

Somehow, someway, You are working this for Your good. Your name WILL be lifted high and You WILL be glorified.

Let us seek You earnestly as we search for something to cling to. We have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and Your glory. Because Your love is better than life, our lips will glorify You. (Psalm 63)

Let us not forget who You are and all that You’ve done for us. You lost Your Son too, Your companion and a part of Your triune self. All so that we could be closer to You. Let this not turn us from You, but towards You. We know there are people out there, whose lives were touched by Hunter when they met him but they’ve not met You yet. Let now be the time. You are not done using his life and his influence yet. Help us and guide us to be on board with Your work right now.

Lord, You are the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves received from Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:3–4) We are weak and hurting right now. Comfort us in the shelter of your wings and fill us with the peace that transcends all understanding and guards our hearts and minds. (Philippians 4:7)

You know what we need most right now. Please give it to us to make us more like You. Thank you for the gift of life that you gave to Hunter for these 21 years. Thank you for all the laughs and smiles he brought to those around him. Use his life and now his death, and use US to further Your kingdom and bring You the praise, honor, glory, and worship that only You deserve.

Amen

God is still good and I hope that these words reach and comfort whoever needs them right now. As I was praying and reflecting today, I felt compelled to share my prayer with you. Sometimes in grief, we are blinded to the bigger picture of who God is and what He is still doing, despite our heartache. God’s been heartbroken too, every time we choose anything over Him. So much so that He willingly let His Son be killed so that we could have hope and salvation to be reunited with Him for eternity. That is one POWERFUL LOVE. And I believe Hunter is experiencing that love right now. Yes, he was far from perfect, we all are, and only God knows what’s in our hearts, but I think Jesus was in his and I pray that He is in yours too. If He’s not, there’s no better time than the present to invite Him in.
